FYI - Volvo V60 D4 (Polestar upgrade) 16 plate has done about 39000 miles.
Quick update.

The car went in yesterday and was ready by lunchtime. Work was done under warranty (I assume - I paid nothing).

Description: "EML on dash. Read codes found ECM PO4D900 stored Low EGR flow. Advise replacement EGR cooler and coolant system pipe rework"

The amount on the bill was £948.60

I guess I wait and see if the code returns!

Be sure that it will occur in more or less 30000 kilometers.

Hi! I am new to this forum - I have a 2015 R Design Lux D4 NAV which I bought in Nov 2017 with 20k miles on. Recently (at 26k) my engine management light came on which has been identified as an EGR/coolant error code. My local dealership have told me the EGR valve etc has already been replaced in Oct 2016 so want to investigate engine valve leakage (not covered by my 3rd party extended warranty). The technician I spoke to said my low mileage and nature of driving ie. commuting relatively short journeys in heavy traffic along with using 'supermarket' fuel are all contributing factors. Should I pursue this line of investigation at my own cost or sell up quickly as it seems to be a huge issue with these engines which doesn't seem to have a permanent fix or have any of you reached a successful outcome?
I didnt get a lot of positive vibes from the dealer as it doesn't have full Volvo service history and could have had the wrong oil filters/oil grade etc used in its life prior to me owning!
Thanks in advance :-)

I was told exactly the same by the technician word for word! (Rybrook?). I had the leakage test done which showed a problem with the piston rings.

The solution was a new engine at a cost of £8700. Fortunately I had a full Volvo service history and to be fair, the dealership were really helpful and negotiated a 90% contribution from Volvo, despite the car being more than 4 years old. Still cost me £870 though.

I now have a 12 month warranty on the engine and cooler so that gives me 12 months to decide whether to hang on or get rid.

So does this problem then cause a high oil consumption which in turn then causes an EGR system blockage? Or is this a completely separate fault that actually has nothing to do with the EGR valve and cooler blockages?

If Volvo now have something as basic as faulty piston rings they are sunk!

I doubt if Volvo/Geely would jeopardise the success of the SPA platform with the VEA, if there was an inherent design fault with the VEA.

My gut feel is that they knew and fixed the issue for the SPA cars (having trialled them in the last phase of the old platform.. ie our cars).

It would be nice if they respected their loyal customers/fans and offered a recall. In return, they would get brand loyalty i'm sure.

If Volvo are truly a safety focused company, how could they risk cars suddenly going into limp mode on the motorway, when they KNOW their cars have a problem?

It's a sad state of affairs. I really hope they follow these forums, and do the right thing. Yes, they are fixing the problems as they are reported (which is good), but why not be proactive about it?

The error code was for blocked EGR/ cooler. As I'd already had the final fix, the dealer suggested a leakage test. I would suspect they've seen this before for even suggesting it. The EGR and cooler were replaced along with the engine..

I hadn't actually noticed any oil consumption at all, although I hadn't checked it for a while.
