  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Default New XC40 Owner - Volvo Cars app

Always enjoy forums..

I recently bought a 2018 First Edition. Absolutely cracking car. Love it.

So my quesiton, what does the Volvo Cars app do? is it worth going through the faf of getting it setup?

I've searched through this forum and on Volvo's website, and I am non the wiser what this can do, and what is supported on the earlier models of the XC40.

With a subscription (£36 annually I think?) you can connect to the car, keep a driving journal showing trip distances, mpg, etc, and lock/unlock or even start the car for pre-heating remotely. The last bit came in very handy over the last few days to save having to wait until the ice was melted enough to drive off in the morning...


If memory serves there is a demo mode on the app to have a look at if you download it without the subscription.

(PS Mine also 2018 T5 AWD First edition)

Yes I have read of these things, but thought it was limited to the hybrid.

could not get demo mode on the app working, alas, just asks for pin when adding the car, and not letting me continue without pin...

but this was most informative, will make a trip to local Volvo to sort, thanks!

Just downloaded the Windows 10 version of the app on to my laptop, that seems to have a demo mode that works if that helps.

It looks slightly different to the iOS app but does pretty much the same thing.

FYI - if you get the car serviced at a main dealer they throw in a subscription for the app/on on call assistance. Well, it happens at my local one anyway.

I have a 2023 model B4 which I took delivery of in January. Previously I leased a 2019 T5. The app on the latter was great but the app for my current car lacks functionality and the remote stop/start only work intermittently

The car is parked in an underground garage? It may be due to poor 4G reception..

Any errors when remote start fails- in the car or in the app?

Btw, as for the lack of functionalities- some features have been removed on Google OS cars.
