OBDN 2 1999 compatibility
My '99 s40 was built around August 1999...looking at the various code readers people have and are on sale, I can't work out which device (apart from massively expensive Volvo stuff) you can buy that will read and delete the SRS module codes/warnings. The Autel EU702 (which looks like the easiezst one you get hold of) says it will read codes only on Phase II models 2001-onwards....can anyone help me with this? I think the Autel 419 and 519 might do it, but of course not sure....

Hi the Autel eu702 resets the srs on my year 2000 v40 1.8 and was the main reason I bought it but I bought it about six years ago and don't know if there has been any changes to it since then

thanks, that is useful info itt looks like they can cost anything from 60-120 quid, but some are not necessarily authentic (Chinese stuff).

It might be incorrect, but would not a cheap blue tooth device work in conjunction with Toque Pro (about £2.50 app). My set up cost me less than £15, and I have used on my 97 puma, a 2001 Saab, a 2008 VW, a Perodua Nippa!, and many other cars from the mid 90's through to about 2010. Yes I only get codes for certain makes such as Saab, but that is enough with the internet for guidance. I have been able to delete codes on every car I tried.
If you are serious the proper kit may be worth investing in, but I diagnose anyone I know for free, and even expensive garage trips have told them little that I didn't. Edit: Sorry I automatically assumed ECU. I have never tried SRS with my set up, but I believe it is likely limited. Last edited by drl; Apr 13th, 2015 at 20:27. Reason: misread OP |

buying a reader would be a good plan for the future, but its a risk as I don't know whether it will do the SRS and maybe the ABS stuff also..its a bit of a jungle out there that the manufacturers have created. I can ask my 940 to test some components for me just by pressing a couple of buttons..that is 25 year old tech but it works-its Bosch of course...

As far as I can see, the AUTEL units look good, but the 400 series will not look at airbags. The only ones that will are the AUTEL EU702 and the MD702 and the 801/802. The EU ones only work to 2008...the MD702 is updatable, but on ebay the Autel units all go for silly money second hand (80 quid plus) so plan B is to buy another SRS control unit with no codes and just change mine.
