Default Bi-Xenon Lamps?

Anyone know what type of lamp/bulb is used in the Adaptive Bi-Xenon headlamps fitted to the new generation Volvo V70 (MY2008) - I'm guessing it's 4300K but is it D2R or D2S ? (I'm going to guess D2S but it would be helpful if someone knows for sure)

Mine has only covered around 36,000 miles but the headlamps are starting to show a yellow discolouration (probably a side effect of them being on all the time).

The manual gives no useful information other than saying they should be replaced by a Volvo technician...

I'm guessing they're not Osram or Philips then ? :P

Personally I dont trust unbranded discharge lamps... I use them in other (non-car) applications and would only use Osram or Philips lamps.

If it makes any difference they're the "Active Bending" type of light...

The "active bending" is controlled by servo motors, nothing to do with the bulb type. No bulb spec in the manual.

It would seem from the Philips web site that most late model V70/S60's with Xenons use the D2R http://www.lighting.philips.com/in_e...ghting&lang=en

@gtr1000 - thanks, hadn't seen that tool on philips site. Seems to suggest my lamp is Philips type 85126 (D2R)

@jbcollier - I guessed servos handled the movement but there's no guarantee they wouldn't use a different lamp in that headlamp unit .. sadly, no, it's not in the manual

Having just spoken to parts supplier they've confirmed it's part number 30763954 ... which is apparently a D1S so I'm no further forward... might need to remove one and look at it but if anyone does have a definitive answer it'd be helpful.

You are making me nostalgic for the old days in France (my mother's land if not quite my mother land) when all cars had to have yellow-tinted headlights, which the French government of the day believed were less dazzling than 'white' headlights. It was true that they were less dazzling, but that was only because the mere fact of the tint reduced the brightness and therefore any propensity to dazzle.

Simples.

In case anyone's following this or finds it in the future - The OEM part is confirmed as a 4300K 35w D2R lamp :)
