XC60 as Furniture Van - Limitations
This may be of interest to those who use their xc60 for moving large objects from time to time.
With the front seats moved slightly forward and the back seats folded down, the car will accommodate taller items of furniture. However, if you just shove the item in from the back, their is a danger it will snag on the leather at the top end on a rear seat and dislodge it. The answer is to treat the matter as a two-person job and be careful to lift the item over the end of the seats. The first attached picture shows the damage incurred on this occasion. The leather is attached to a plastic assembly and folded down behind a section of thin soft metal. This is the area that can get damaged as shown. However, as shown in the second picture, it is possible to straighten out the dents in the metal and then fold it all back together and press down into place. The mark in the leather is from where the fold-down safety grill meets the seat back. The peculiar difference in colour cast is down to different sunlight conditions for the two pictures.

Good point. I always cover the entire load area with towels/tarpaulins/polythene etc, and always supervise loading myself (no-one else will take as much care as you!)
The other danger area for leather seat damage is the driver's seat as you get in. Back pocket studs or buttons on your trousers have the potential to deeply scratch your precious leather. My final tip on transporting stuff concerns paint/liquids - always tape lids to prevent spillage (I learned the hard way after 2 and a half litres of white gloss emptied itself into the footwell!!). Good subject for a thread this. Anyone else able to offer timely warnings about potential pitfalls...?? To be forewarned...and all that...

I carried a full single bed in the back of my XC60 - had to move the front seats well forward to do it though!
