Default V60 2013 Fuse Box Replacement or How to repair

Hi, please could some guide me.

V60 1.6 Diesel R Design

My wiper washer stopped working for front windscreen and rear, no water, wipers work.

The garage replaced the wiper stalk and said the fuse box itself is damaged and needs replacing which is a massive cost.

The fuse box itself has traces of burning, everything else works fine on the car.

What are my options now, its a £1k plus job to solve at Volvo I have been told?

Is there any other and cheaper way to solve this?

Thanks in advance.

Donald

The most important question is why did it burn ? that needs diagnosing first ...

The garage that tried to solve this, said it was caused by the wiper stalk which smelt of burning and replaced it for a new one.

But your right as well, how did it reach the fuse box when there are fuses for that.

It does need investigating , The wiper switch hasn't carried any load for over 20 years now , all it does is send a tiny signal to the CEM to tell it what to do with the wipers/washers, certainly not enough current to cause smoke ..

My car has done 160K now, could this be age related?

The car has been very well maintained, so I'm not looking to scrap it.

The garage said that one of the little transistors on the wiper stalk had dropped off after heating up too much.

The wipers where used when the car was iced up, wipers moved, but could frozen water pipes have forced this issue?

No mileage shouldn't affect it , heat might . so the wipers froze to the screen?

Wipers where free, pulled on the stalk for water which had antifreeze in, but was frozen

I had some in, I will call Volvo and see what this will cost to replace the fuse box and share the outcome.

Is there no easy way (or less expensive) to swap out the fuse box for a scrap one and have it coded to the engine again?

This is going to be painful I think
