I don't think anyone over 6ft would fair too well though, not if the driver or passenger is the same!

I guess 6ft is the sweet spot in these in the rear. They aren't the roomiest in the back leg room wise, not for anyone over 6ft anyway.
I'm not planning on travelling far like that! Definitely no one taller or wider should contemplate it

I wouldn't blame you. I think it would get uncomfortable quite quickly.

Rear space is disappointing in these cars, especially if the front occupants are tall (It doesn't leave much space for those in the back). There's as much leg room in a Qashqai or Ford Focus, which are significantly smaller!

I also find the door openings quite narrow and the footwells are low. So a taller/wider person has to almost lie down to get their feet out. Boot space is great, but rear passenger space isn't.

They aren't a great car for taller/bigger rear passengers at all. Quite disappointing for such a big estate.

Agreed. We're Exteded Rear Facing carseat fascists and only the smallest of that type of seat fits easily in our XC70. There's more room in our Nissan Leaf.

The key measure is the distance from the front passenger footwell, to the rear seat back. No use having loads of space in the back if the front passenger's knees are in the glovebox.

Agreed.

What’s your thoughts on the Leaf?

The V70 rear seat is plenty big enough for 3 kids or even 2 kids and an adult.

I have a 10 year old who is not off her booster seat but used to sit in the middle on it up until last year, a 22 month old in a rotating cybex Serona Isofix seat and a 3 year old in a cybex Pallas seat. All fit fine, I sometimes sit in the rear with the younger kids.

Also the law is if you can’t fit 3 kids seats then a child from 3 yrs old can sit without a child seat in the middle however it obviously isn’t recommended for obvious reasons, it would be acceptable to go to a simple booster cushion though.

Better than a 5 series or XF in my experience. 5 series is the opposite of a tardis.

I do agree with that. I'm 5'10", so not that tall, and getting into the drivers seat I have to be careful to slide in reclining to avoid hitting my head on the top of the door frame while I can enter our 2009 Micra without thinking about any restriction at all. I have a weakness in my neck vertebrae so I really do notice when I get it wrong! I love the XC70 but it isn't as roomy a car as people tend to believe.

I understand what you mean.

I would have preferred extra leg room in the back over boot space. In the scale of things, an extra inch or two of leg space in the back would make a big difference to the overall comfort, especially for those of us that are taller and bulkier. The gains in leg room would be minimally lost in the boot.

No car is perfect though.

I've pondered this, and with the V70, more leg room would mean a higher rear back rest, since the back rest forms the forward part of the rear platform in estate mode and would still need to get somewhere near the rear of the front seat back rests. That's a design limitation.
