Red face mirror glass replacement

Hi Folks,
I am new to the Volvo forums so please be gentle with me! I used to be a SAAB 9000 driver but am happily settled in to my S60 2L turbo now - very smooth and the cabin is great. Well built cars aren't they?
Anyhoo, I managed to smash the glass in my driver's side mirror and have a replacement ready but am a little concerned over how to actually fit it...
I have searched the forums but haven't really found what I need - can anyone out there let me know what I should do please?
Sure would appreciate it

Hi,

Welcome to the forums.. Hope your stay is a long and happy one..

As for the mirror.
There maybe two ways to install/fit mirrors.
One is you push the new mirror (with associated backing plate or plastic) into a balljoint type receptor.
This calls for a strong stomach as it feels like you are going to break the mirror glass!
Pre greesing the ball helps.
There is another, If I remember, where you can rotate the connecting plastic ring behind the mirror and thus removing the unit.
opposite to fit.

Hope this helps,

Des. . .

I had to replace my mirror glass after someone strayed onto my side of the road and took out my wing mirror. I didn't have the problem of removing the old glass as the whole lot came out on impact including the motor behind.

On my MY05, the mounting for the glass is spring loaded on one side. I had to slot one side in and then push the glass to one side to get the other side to clip in. Presumably removal would mean sliding the glass to one side (can't remember whether it was towards or away from the car) and one side should pull out.

Hope this helps,

Alistair

Thanks for the advice fellas, I got brave and had a bit of inspiration so I tried to slide the mirror away from the car a bit and then pulled on the outer side... off she came! The new one went on accordingly.
See you all soon
