Default Low Speed Clanking, Clunking

I doubt anyone will be able to help here as I am cannot really accurately describe the problem.

At low speeds in my (MY06, 5K miles) S60 I have noticed a clunking or clanking noise. Seems to come from an area under the driver seat. At first I was not sure if it was inside or outside the cabin but I had the window open today and it is MUCH louder so outside seems to be the case.

Inside the car it is a bit like a ticking noise (reminds me of my old Jaguar fuel pump going). Outside it is much more metallic.

Only occurs at low speeds but with no real pattern other than mostly on take-off in a traffic jam.

If the mileage were higher I would suspect some kind of suspension component. Exhaust maybe? I have given it a hard stare underneath and can see nothing obvious.

Anyone out there ever had anything similar?

This thread may help - sounds like your driveshaft splines. Mine does the same; not got round to getting it done yet! I see you're in Oxon, which dealer do you use?

Cheers

Bought the car from Bells Northampton but have not had to use a dealer yet!

Car is booked in at Fawcetts Newbury Saturday morning so we will see what they come up with. Should be easy if a common a problem as it sounds, the only wierd thing is car has only 5K miles!

Dealer agreed with diagnosis and threadlocked driveshaft splines. All seems well but have not been stuck in slow traffic yet. Fair play to them for getting me booked in (on a Saturday morning) with 24 hours notice and getting it fixed.
