Hi,
Noticed by V70 has a couple of small (2-3mm) areas of rust on the bottom of the drivers door where the paint has chipped off. Saw this Hammerite product Kurust on the net and it looked ideal.

I have given up on my Volvo dealer sorting out bodywork problems - they are hopeless and seem to cause as many problems as they solve.

Thanks

If your asking, it sounds like you have not done it before.
You need a fair amount of time and patience.
You can get stone chips done by people that come round your house to do it.
You dont have to go to a Volvo dealer.
Just find someone who is recommended.
Have a look at some examples of the work they have done.

Never had the need to on my previous BMW. My car still has 9 months of used warranty left from volvo - I have no faith in their bodywork centre as it goes in with one problem and leaves with another.

The couple of chips are invisble from the outside/inside, they are on the door edge itself. I just wondered if I could dab them with this Kurust stuff and then a dab of paint on top.

I shall go and read the jar...

Default It works

Had a go, and have to say it seems to have worked really well. Read some other reviews of the stuff after a google search and all seemed to enthuse about it. Anyway - worked really well...now see if it lasts the test of time....

Got an idea though when the car's out of warranty - will paint a fine edge of hammerite black enamel along the bottom of the door. Will be invisible from outside and in. My car is dark pearlescent grey in case you're wondering.

I think the door edge design, and the volvo paint quality are poor. Particularly when I compare the quality of the paint to my BMW.

Anyone got any opinions on the hammerite idea?

Hi, Have used both Kurust and Hammerite for many years on various cars and bikes. Do what they say on the tin. Hammerite tricky to apply neatly due to its viscosity. If you just want to slow down the corrosion (you'll never stop it) and it's not a visible area then I would just apply some Waxoyl and renew every couple of years. Works really well, and if you want to get rid it just wipes off with spirit.

Well done, glad it worked for you.
I did not realize it was in a place that could not be seen readily.
I had in mind you were doing a chip in center of door.

This may seem really obvious but please wear eye protection when you use it.

I ended up in Bristol Eye Hospital having my eyes washed out with alkaline solution after a small bit flicked off a small brush into my face.

Its good stuff for rust, not so good for eyes!

Hammerite is great stuff for chosen applications but... if you've never used it before, and it's in any place that will show, I'd suggest practising applying it first on something other than your prized possesion! I find I get the best finish by firstly having the surface to be painted flat, in the horizontal plane, to avoid runs - difficult if it's a car! Secondly, don't try to brush it out - load the brush evenly then one, or maybe two, brush strokes and leave it. As I said - practice first.

Hope this helps all Hammerite newbies (and apologies to old-timers)
