Default Rear wheel bearings

I am looking for advice.

At least one of the rear wheel bearings need to replace on my 2006 V50. As she is now quite old and I am currently living in Spain, where parts are very expensive, I thought I would browse eBay and find replacement parts at a reasonable price.

Ooo!! What a can of worms I have opened for myself. As a lady who can change a tyre, car bulbs, check fluid levels, etc I am totally unprepared for buying parts, (I did manage to buy new rear shocks) so I could use some advice.

Are GSP a reliable make? I can buy them from Germany and therefore not pay custom duty on them.

I would stay off ebay and go to AutoDoc. If you download the mobile phone application, they have good prices. Send them an email for help in choosing the required parts.

I just bought a SKF rear wheel bearing for my 2005 V50 from a local Motor factor, He wanted £85 + VAT for an SKF. However he price matched a SKF being sold on EBay for £80 inc VAT.
£80 seems very reasonable however there are some cheaper SKF ones if you look around on EBay. Makes it easier if you have the correct SKF number to double check

However I had previously replaced this bearing in 2010 so has lasted 12 years, it is the side that has to drop off the kerb every day so that could affect it. I am sure I put anti seize on the bolts but I could only get 1 out with the correct socket. I then just cut the old hub off with a disc cutter from the front, and with that I remembered I had to cut the hub off on the other side a couple of years ago as well.

SLF and Timken are good. Also check with Volvo.

I think it’s usually safe to replace a single side to be honest.

My Daihatsu just went for it's MoT (at a Volvo specialist) and has an advisory for rear wheel bearing play, they said they'd just replace it on that side, both isn't necessary.

Yes I have previously replaced them Ona a single side. You can get 75,000 miles from one side and 200,000 from the other.

I like the daihatsus, great vehicles!
