Default Drivers airbag/steering wheel removal

I'm about to swap steering wheels, read various posts on wheel removal, but...is it okay to use an impact wrench to remove steering wheel retaining bolt?
Also when reconnecting battery some say to turn ignition on first...right or wrong?

Thanks guys

I have never needed an impact wrench or breaker bar to undo the steering wheel nut - never found them 'that tight'. Have always connected the battery and then turned the ignition on - whilst standing outside the car and reaching in through the open door, has worked for me.

ditto

Exactly that - always thought I was being over cautious, but I also reach through the window to switch the ignition on afterwards.

Note - I also disconnect the battery and leave the car alone for 15 minutes before working on any part of the SRS system. I'm not sure how long any capacitive discharge takes to dissipate, but 15 minutes has been safe for me.
