Default Volvo on call

Having just bought a new XC90(10 plate).. i was curious about the on call button...I pressed it,it started ringing an s lady answered it... On reflection and quite rudely I hung up... Can't find any info in the hand books, what is it for and how come it is "live" as the car is 7 years old.. I don't have a SIM card in the holder.. does anyone have any idea what would happen if I press the sos button. Regards Phil..

You really should have the ON CALL supplement for the handbook see your dealer ...

When you press ON CALL you get the nice lady operator who will help you with anything you ask , nearest fuel station , hotel , breakdown help , etc , some one you can talk to about the area you are in .. a good idea to ask them if it is all working well . If you end upside down in a ditch it will phone the operator who will have all the car data to hand and try and talk to you , they will contact the emergency services ...

It doesn't matter how old the car is the safety still works ...It has it's own built in SIM and reserve battery . Volvo pioneered this system 19 years ago in their cars , It is about to be mandatory in all new cars like most volvo ideas .

If you press the SOS button you get the emergence services yourself ..
You need to register with the system at your dealer so they know who you are if they need to rescue you ,, saves vital time .. It is probably still registered to the previous owner which could be confusing ..

The security system part of it you pay a yearly fee for .
