Hi,
I have a 2012 XC60 D5 AWD Auto so hopefully can help. I've covered 20,000 miles in just over a year in Mine. Reliability - Never had an issue, as with everything history is your friend. Make sure if it's over 54,000 that it's had it Aux belt & tensioner changed. There's been a few recalls over the years make sure any purchase is up to date with them. Miles per tank I can help with I currently (almost every weekend) do a round trip on the A1 from Tyneside to Milton Keynes or Stevenage. I have the tank almost to the brim when I leave (maybe have covered 20 or so miles since filling) do the round trip of 500miles & arrive home just above the point where the low fuel light comes on (2allons IIRC but can be corrected). Speedwise I do the distance at a fairly constant 70-75 but drop to the limits in roadworks. Hope this helps

I have a 2009 FWD 2.4 D5 model, had it for 2 years and approx. 20K miles.
When I got it, it had a leaking front screen and water in the footwells, so that's something to watch out for, resealed windscreen and fine since. Also aux belt was well worn the issue here is it going can mean it takes out the cambelt which is then big money. Doors handles can be a bit sticky, bonnet latches can be sticky and so a bonnet open warning light can come on even when the bonnet is fully shut. Thermostats can go, so check the heater gets piping hot in a short time. The 2wd is pretty efficient and I've seen 700 miles up on the expected range after a fill up, but don't get that, trip shows a 44mpg average, will be less on a 4wd I'd imagine. Material interior is not great, splits on the drivers seat common, leather is fine I think. Like most Volvo's I find it a relaxing drive, my first suv thing and it's not too boat like, comfortable and spacious enough for me. 2.0L engines have some egr valve issues from what I've read? |

All cars with EGR valves will have EGR issues at some stage of their life.
All makes and all models. It's the nature and function of EGR valves that predestines them to cause trouble at some stage....

On my D4 FWD manual I can usually get over 700 miles per tank. Once I did over 800 miles, driving like a vicar on the North Coast 500 !
Not many cars have 70 litre tanks these days. Even Volvo have 'shrunk the tank' on the latest generation cars. Porsche, Audi and VW used to offer enlarged fuel tanks on some of their larger SUVs, but I'm not sure this is still the case. I suspect the drive to reduce 'laden weight' for the fuel economy tests is one reason for smaller tanks. When you are a high mileage driver, this is a pain. The XC60 capacity is actually about 75 litres if you run it to the red line.

Having just driven 840 miles from Vienna to the Chunnel - I was glad of a 75 litre capacity and high 40's mpg.

700 miles per tank is easily attained if I'm mostly doing motorway miles.
I regularly see a predicted range of 900 miles when I fill up but it drops considerably when driving around town in stop / start traffic.

Mine is a Frankenstein model, a late 2010 model but fitted with a new engine by Volvo 40,000km ago (previous owner a company car).
A D5 AWD, very reliable, it has never let me down yet. Last week I was driving across Europe averaging 8l/100km or 35 mpg but carrying four adults and a full load in the boot cruising at 80 mph sometimes touching 115mpg where speed limits permit driving her hard.

Look out for leaking radiators which was a common problem along with rear tailgate boot switch
