Servicing Yourself
Good Afternoon All,
I am coming upto the 118,000 mile service on my 07 D5 and I was thinking about changing most of the parts/Oil myself as I have quite enjoyed doing this on my previous cars. My questions is are their any specialist tools or any parts list available? Ive had a quick search and can not find any information for the P3 V70.... TIA |

Scott, I know what you mean!! As far as oil, filters etc concerned all fairly standard tools...hexes, torxes for brake pads/discs,EST if you decide to do rear brakes yourself( EPB) although they can be done without.36mm socket for oil filter. Strap wrench for fuel filter. Don't know about timing belt,I'll leave mine to the professionals when the time comes.
Haynes now do a manual for this car and explains the procedures |

The Haynes manual does seem to cover pretty much everything in routine servicing. I've just done a mid-service oil and filter change on my D5 and it was quite easy. I imagine over filter and fluids will be the same. Consumables like brakes/bushes etc could also be done at home!
I think the main question is are you willing to lose the re-sale value of a FSH car? Need to weigh up how long you intend on keeping the car plus savings by doing servicing yourself minus loss of reslae value! |

I thought I would get a few smiles from the title!
I will purchase the haynes manual great tip. The car is on 118,00 miles service (Full Volvo Service History upto now) and if I keep all receipts for parts purchased and put them in a tidy folder then get Volvo/Independent to do major works ie cambelt etc I think this will be fine. I am more than happy with the car and can easily see me running this upto 200k if she remains reliable. Then there is always the temptation of a remap! Im currently living in Hamburg Germany so I need to find a good parts supplier or I will have to go visit Volvo Is there a specialist tool needed to remove the oil filter? Does anyone have a part number? |

All you need for the oil filter is a ratchet, an extension bar and a 36mm socket.
The extension bar can easily be manueovered past the trunking etc and the cover unscrewed.Parts are available on line from Eurocarparts and others |
