Default 10,000 mile 240 on Ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLVO-240-GL-1...item3a59685838

Looks very very nice!

This looks a really interesting car.

Interesting for it's apparent provenance, and because I'm not sure you'd normally expect to see a late 86 D-reg GL with the 264-style front grille and no rear head rests, chrome wheel trim rings and hub centre caps.

Interesting too as it appears to have the earlier type steering wheel with vertical horn button.

Could it be an 84 or 85 model that's been registered very late?

It looks good.

To my untrained eyes it looks like its a carb' engine not fuel injected & also to be 5-speed.

Did they make a 2.0ltr, 5-speed wth a carb'?

If I'm wrong (could well be LOL) and its FI, then its just a different FI to my 89' jobby.

Still nice, what ever

It certainly looks like a B200K (2 litre carb) engine, but I'm not a 240 person. Has anyone ever seen this car at shows?

How much do people think this will go for? I'm thinking about booking into a hospital to have an operation to raise some funds to buy it.

Its not going to be an FI engine as its got a choke lever to the left of the steering wheel if you look close - Mike

It looks very very nice but for me as it's such low mileage it's done very little travelling. I would prefer to buy one that has more miles and been regularly used. It's sat there most of it's 24 years. I don't know if the engine/carb/mechanical internals would degrade with such low use? For me though, also being a carb would put me off. Bad experience with my carbed 740! But it does look like new and if it drives superb I would definately think it's worth 1,000 pounds. James.

Yes, James, I would echo your sentiments . I have have bought a couple of very low mileage cars in my lifetime and lived to regret it. Unless, the buyer is very lucky he or she should prepare for hefty mechanical bills in the near future.

Completely agree about the low usage syndrome - seals etc dry out, and I wouldn't mind betting that if and when it's used much now the rear crank oil seal would go, the brake calipers will start seeping, as will the master cylinder.

Unless there's proof it's been done very recently the first job would be a cambelt change.

It's definitely not FI - as has been spotted there's a choke to the left of the steering wheel.

As for value, who knows? It's clearly worth a lot more than diddly squat, and if it was a 2.3 (GLT ?) auto it'd be on my watch list! A starting price of £1000 might be a tad ambitious, but good luck to the seller - hope it goes to a good home!

The carburettor is a give-away too.

Is it my imagination or is there a piece of door moulding missing?

Yep, door trim missing, engine bay nothing special, and nice bit of rust looks to be taking hold on the rear arch
