Radio Fault
My 850R has an original radio fitted. It has an intermittent fault whereby when turned on the radio powers up as normal but there is no sound. When turned off then back on it works fine. I’ve checked all the connectors and wires on the back of the unit and could not see any issues. Any thoughts as to what might be the problem? Thanks.

Do you mean when switched on/off using the power button on the radio or the ignition?

When the ignition is on and the power button is pushed the radio illuminates as normal but there is no radio feed through the speakers, can hear static with the volume up.

Does it do it only on FM, or does AM work, and CD, tape etc. - in other words, is it silent on all sources or just FM radio? There's a reason I ask......

Certainly silent on both FM and AM. The CD has never worked since I’ve had the car and I don’t think I have a single tape to be able to try it.

If you switch off again after you have managed to get the radio to work does it go back to no sound from the radio? In other words does this sequence repeat itself? If the CD section is faulty it might be defaulting to that when you switch on. Faulty CD selector switch maybe

I don’t think the sequence repeats itself, if working and I turn it off it works when turned back on. I had assumed the fault lay somewhere outside the unit itself, ie. in the wiring, I hadn’t considered it being an internal fault.

My T-5R did much the same thing - switch on, nothing but radio static but then sometimes it would randomly pick up a signal OK. The aerial amplifier was on its way out. New ones are unavailable but there are loads on eBay second hand. Also, any aerial amplifier of a similar spec should work fine. John

Thanks John, I’ll look up Roberts’s video. Can I determine at the head unit end whether a signal is being received or not?
