Default V70 Classic Alarm

Hi,

I have a 1997 V70 TDi SE. When I locked it today with the remote key fob I noticed that the alarm LED on the dashboard did not start to flash. On further inspection when I press the button to lock the doors, all the doors lock but the indicators do not flash and the alarm light does not start to flash. Does this mean that the alarm is not armed? When I unlock the car with the button the indicators flash and the doors unlock. I have tried the spare key fob and the same thing happens. Has anybody had this before? and if so how do I fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Mark

Yes, this mean the alarm isn't armed - despite the dual flash when unlocking.

Try and see if the interior courtesy lights are staying on rather than fading out after 30 seconds. If they are staying on then it means a door isn't closed properly. Although it may appear to be closed properly, the sensor in the lock mechanism hasn't registered it as such, thus leaving the interior lights on and not setting the alarm.

This situation can be because a door has been shut very very gently. Try slamming all the doors (& tailgate) and trying again. If this doesn't work it's probably a failed sensor.

If it's a back door (as mine was) then in a dark garage you'll also see the red door-open warning light on by the seat even though the door is closed.

Haynes does mention the sensor in the lock but suggests that due to the need for careful soldering it's best left to the main dealer. I just remember that I have to close one door firmly !!

Thankyou very much. The man at the MOT station had not closed the bonnet properly. As soon as I opened and closed the bonnet the alarm started working properly.

Thanks again
