What to do with my old car?
The problems are mounting for my old V70, and all of a sudden I reckon it's almost time for goodbye. It's 17 years old (P-reg) and has covered almost 300,000 miles, 250,000 of those with me at the wheel.
I don't know what the new chariot will be, but I'm fairly certain that whatever comes next it will not ever be as good a car as my V70 has been. But it's electrics are getting more than a bit problematic (fuses blowing, bits not working), the steering rack leak is getting more pronounced, the ABS and other warning lights are making random appearances, and to be honest, I'm getting fed up with scratching round trying to keep it going. There's only so much that cable ties and leak-stop will do! The sad thing is that the bodywork is still very good, as is the off-black leather interior. It has an LPG conversion and the engine runs pretty well most of the time, whilst the automatic gearbox seems to be fine. The question is, what do I do with it? I plan to remove all that I can to keep as spares for SWMBO's S70. After that, is the scrap yard the only option? Or could I donate the car to the local college or maybe to the fire and rescue services for training purposes? Anyone got any ideas or suggestions? I'd like to think that the old bus could still prove useful, even once finally off the road! Cheers Jack |

Local collages wont want it if you have stripped it. Trumpton may want it but may ask you to deliver it, if thats the case call one of the local tow companies they might take it to the fire boys foc.

Most scrap yards donate the motors to local firestations. then pick them up when they have had their fun/practice.
Depends how much you intend to strip off it? If it is a complete shell its worth putting on fleaBay for the banger boys. Then again scrap is at a reasonable price at the moment so the local scrappy may give you a reasonable price. If you were local to me I would give you at least £300 for it, which is a hell of a lot better than cartakeback.com and set ups like that |

I once offered a couple of 'scrappers' to the local fire service as 'training vehicles' but was advised that they get all of their 'training vehicles' from a single supplier. Perhaps it was a 'contract' issue?

The breakers yard that I work for on occasion have the 'contract'for 4 of the local fire stations. They dont charge but the cars have to be drained etc before they go. It must be an enviromental thing.
