Default B5 petrol or B4 diesel?

Afternoon, apologies if this has been covered multiple times.

Just finalising an order with the new XC60 trim and options levels

Anyone had any experience with both the B5 petrol and B4 diesel? We’ve had a Disco sport for 5 years and surprise surprise have had multiple issues with the DPF. Edging towards the B5 petrol at the moment as the fuel savings on the diesel will cancel themselves out with the extra cost of the car.

Can’t find a B5 to test drive. Dealer only has diesels.

Any advice would be appreciated

👍

I bought a T5 (petrol) XC90 and am very happy with it. Could not test drive one as in 2019 most people still bought diesel but drove a D5, liked the car and ordered what I wanted. I think diesel's only place now is if you tow but lots on here will pile in to disagree.

Thanks, yeah I’m edging towards Petrol due to the lack of DPF, ad blue etc. Volvo seem very anti diesel at the moment. Definitely pushing the petrols more.

Or do a high mileage. There's little point if you do 12000 miles or thereabouts - the extra cost of the car and fuel outweighs the difference in consumption.

If you do 25000+ a year, it makes quite a difference still, and you don't then tend to have DPF issues either as the thing can have a good blow through whenever it feels like it.

That’s my thinking, thanks for that. B5 petrol then 👍

You wont be disappointed. I test drove B5P and B5D back in Aug 2021 and it was a no brainer both on smoothness and performance. Only drove the B5D about 2 miles before taking it back to dealer as the difference was immediately obvious to both myself and wife (as passenger).

I have a v90cc b5. I get between 20 mpg town driving and 33 mpg at 70 motorway run. The total average is 27 mpg over 8k miles.
The price difference between petrol and diesel is also a big factor
