Default Amazon wanted

Hello!

After falling in love with an Amazon I saw that has now gone, I'm definitely a prospective owner.

I'm after a decent condition 121/122 (haven't totally got to grips with the designations yet!), preferably 2-door with a current MOT, looking to pay not more than 1800 I hope.

Cheers
Andy

The 121 was the single carb version of the car while the 122 left the factory with dual carbs...

It gets sort of confusing if you dig into the factory designations. If you want to get technical, you will sometime see the two door refered to as a 131 or 132 but this not common. As well as the amazon wagon/estate being call the 221/222...

One on e-bay at the moment looks reasonable, it depends what it goes for i suppose http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volvo-131-amaz...item43a282d1c2

Thanks, I've been keeping my eye on that one- though it went for over 3k last time so I imagine it will be well outside my budget this time too. Then again, with eBay, who knows?!

I've said this before, but my advice is be ready to spend at least as much as you pay for the car on getting it properly usable. I've been keeping receipts for what I've spent and in the nine months I've owned mine I've spent exactly as much as the purchase price (but I do need it to work as everyday transport, so the pressure's on). Cashflow is of course the issue, so try and work out a priority list of what needs tackling and tackle it in the right order - otherwise your cashflow runs away with you. Be sure to factor this in when haggling or ebaying!

Good luck.

With that in mind, I'd suggest buying the very best one you can afford in the first place.
A £3k Amazon is likely to be in better shape than a £1500 one that's had £1500 spent on it.

That red Ebay one does look nice, and it's a late model twin carb so it'll be faster than the hallowed GT, but it's been on sale quite a few times over the last year or so, which sets alarm bells ringing.

Whilst mechanical problems aren't necessarily cheap to fix, bodywork issues are usually by far the most expensive to put right, and sorting out a rusty example properly will be a money pit. If you're not already familiar with Amazons, it might be worth having a read here.

Thanks for the advice all, I may need to consider upping the budget and taking time to find a good one by the sound of it.

Having said that, it would have to go some way to beating my current alfa as a money pit, and that's only ten years old!

Hi there. Ref that green one above-Its being sold by Amazon repairs in Oxford and being a long standing customer of Charlies, I drove it to the supermarket last month while my car was being serviced! Its honestly described as crusty but a surprisingly nice drive!!
