Is superglue gel suitable for that application (genuine Q)? If I'd gone that route rather than tape, I'd probably have gone with a clear marine epoxy

Enquired about the discs to upgrade the satnav from 2011 as per the Volvo website and the dealer service told me in his opinion there is a 50/50 chance doing so will 'brick' the unit if it doesn't have a world symbol on it!
At a cost of £1000 to fix if it goes wrong.
That is utter bollocks!

I bought the latest 2018 DVDs from eBay for about £25

It installed without an issue but it took a hell of a long time.

TBH, most people use the satnav on their phones so why bother?

PS, you can have my 2014 dvds for a tenner.

+1.
I've been using £25 'back-up' copies in my C70 and XC70 for years with no issues.
As said, update takes a while so you might need the car on a battery charger. 2018 version is more than useable.

Thumbs down

Not sure why he claimed this, but I’m going to have a go. Just need to make sure I am getting the right discs.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353388602921

Looking at these? Is it simply a case of turn the car on and keep it on charge?
Meanwhile I’ll try drying and sealing the lamps. I’m thinking I might try the penetrating glue from the outside of the lamp lens and see if it works, while filling the edges with clear sealant, as you have all suggested.

I was wondering if there is a way to get some glue on the crack inside the unit.

Not without removing the lens completely I'm afraid.

...but the Tolley's stuff, if it works as claimed, will do that itself from the outside face.

Once you start the install, you can drive the car and stop it and the install will start again the next time you start the car.

It takes about 2/3 hours but you don't have to make it continuous.

It gives you progress info so there is no panic.

Those discs look original, like the ones I bought.

I would imagine so. I'd only be a bit concerned about damage from the accelerator, but if the light unit is indoors then I'd just leave it overnight to set. I use superglue gel all the time to glue bones that require gaps bridged and it works great so it was my first thought. However, my bint makes resin stuff so maybe her UV setting epoxy would be a better choice?

Hell no, you don't want a blue River effect down it, which seems to be what you make with the epoxy stuff

Tbh as our colleague assures us Captain Haddock's* penetrating stuff works as described, it does seem like a no-brainer.

*Or whoever he was

Well I’m going to dry the lenses out and try the Captains penetrant glue on the cracks first, the seal after drying them very well in the house for a few hours. That’s the weekend job so I need some black silicone first for the seals i guess.
