Default Strange turbo noise?

Hi all, first post

I have Just acquired an 850T5.

The first thing i have noticed is the turbo 'whoosh' sounds quite reedy and almost like a dry leaf stuck in a pipe... kind of slight rustling noise, anyone have a clue what im on about?

anyway, just wondering if this was 'normal' ?

hopefully get some time to start pottering about with it this weekend. Ive promised the wife it will remain standard! (my fiat coupe is in the garage for the second time this year, and its not looking cheap.. so the T5 is the replacement)

cheers
dan

hi, could the rustling turbo noise be mistaken for ceramic rattling about in the cat ?

yep its standard, im going to fit an induction kit, for the noise rather than any power gains which im not expecting due to bay heat etc.

whats the cheapest route to 'chip' the car ? its a '96 850 T5.

MBC, manual boost controller, about £30 combined with a boost gauge, again £30....
Don Nochi http://www.kalmar-union.com/ can sort you a MTE upgrade for around £295 giving you around a 40-50 bhp increase (iirc on both cases) or you can look at the RICA options which equate very similar to the kalmar union quotes i would expect....
there are other companies offering chip/remap upgrades but there two are certainly the leaders....
i would suggest you come to a local meet to test a few cars running remaps before you make your choice...
cheers

Default hmm

youve probably messed up the air flow to the MAF sensor. just a thought how did you take the MAF sensor off the original air box? and how is it plumbed into the induction filter? you might need to put the MAF sensor further down stream from the induction filter using some pipe, also try and keep the plastic mesh infront of the MAF sensor, this is there to if you like straighten the air flow accross the MAF sensor.

the maf sensor stayed where it was, the cone filter now sits where the airbox was, all else is the same.
car idles and runs fine, just the 'lambda' light is on.

will it go away if i disconnect the battery for a while?
