Default Creaking Front Suspension

Dear Members (and experts)

I have the C70 2001, 2.0 Turbo (suspension is a bit lower at the front) convertible.

Does anyone have an educated guess for the diagnosis/cure of the following:

1. Creaking (‘clacking/creaking’) noise front the front suspension
2. Happens over bumps
3. Happens more going up hill
4. It’s possible to feel something through he accelerator pedal in tandem with the creaking

I’m looking at strut mounts, bushes, and the hydraulic arm things for suspension replacements. Not sure which is needed, or whether a kit.

Can I go generic or stick with genuine volvo parts for this job.

Many thanks to you all

Get a torch and look upwards under the wheel arch at the top spring cups that locate the springs. These are notorious for corroding away. - cheap to buy but a faff to fix - struts out.

Regards
John

Thank you John I will the mechanic to do this.

It’s the spring -‘cups’ you say, not just the springs then. I need new cups.

Kind regards,

If you're getting it all stripped out and sorted have a very careful look at the springs too, my wife's Kia had an annoying clacking/creaking from the front offside which I tried to find several times, stripping out the arch liners, double checking every bolt and joint etc, we only found out what it was after we'd passed the car on to our daughter and soon after the spring broke! Inspecting the remains there were the obvious signs of a fatigue failure which had been going on for all that time, every creak the rubbing of metal, every clack another microscopic growth of the fracture.
