S40 1.8 - Vibrating/Rubbing Noise at High RPM, and More…
Having a problem with a strange noise (well, 2 noises actually) on my 1.8 S40. At high rpms, say above 5000, there is a weird intermittent vibrating or rubbing noise. Seems to be more noticeable in 1st and 2nd but that could just be because wind noise takes over. Sounds like it’s coming from low down I think. Could this be a gearbox mount perhaps? The (UK) drivers side engine mount is beginning to split so I need to replace that anyway, but it doesn’t sound like it’s coming from that one.
The other noise I have no clue about. It only happens on one road near me, a sharp left hand bend on a very steep hill with a very bumpy surface. It basically sounds like something flapping about coming from the drivers side front wheel area or thereabouts, not like any suspension knock I’ve ever heard though. I can’t see anything obviously wrong down there, it’s really got me stumped. Any ideas? |

First place I always look with noises/vibrations of this nature is CV joints.
