Default New anti-theft keys less responsive?

I’m finding the keyless entry and boot kick release less responsive on my MY21.5 compared to my previous MY18.5

I can stand by the car, holding the handle and it won’t unlock sometimes until I try a second time. Also, can hardly get the comfort release on the boot to work.

Crossed my mind that the new (MY20+?) security keys go to sleep to prevent / reduce keyless theft. Maybe they go to sleep too easily! - anyone experienced similar?

Thanks

I asked my dealer about the motion sensing keys that came with my car but they knew nothing about it. I did some research and found some details about the key manufacturer and there is some details about the key going to sleep when not moving BUT when I tested the key I just couldn’t get it not to open the doors. I left the key untouched near the car for 30 minutes but keyless entry still let me in which indicated the key was still broadcasting.

I was hoping it would go to sleep like the Ford keys do. I asked Volvo direct and they refused to tell me the time to sleep saying it was a security concern. Odd since Ford advertise the time.

I’m not convinced the key goes to sleep on my car. I was hoping to prevent relay attack which is how my X5 disappeared off the drive.

Hi,

Both my keys have MS at the end of the serial number. This lead me to the technical documentation from the key manufacturer. I had to replace a key last month due to an accident with the other one and the replacement key also has the ms at the end.

Could you please tell me how you know your key goes to sleep? My test (with the key left very near the car for 30 minutes) didn’t seem to work. I keep my keys in a faraday box. Would love to know that they do work (I wonder why Volvo are so secretive!)

Thanks

Hmm, I wonder if the key has to be outside of the car's range AND stationary for the defined time before it deactivates? If that's the case it makes it hard to test...

Volvo are probably secretive because about the defined time because it it is a security vulnerability - the time period prior to deactivation provides a 'window of opportunity' for attackers to still use the really attack.

As mention in another reply, when your fob becomes less responsive its a sign a new battery is required, that will bring it back to full life again.

Default Keyless theft

I did the same test left my keys near the car, they never went to sleep. I also found when I go camping that my keys can be a long way away from the car 20 foot or so and I can still open. I do wish we had some clarity on Volvo keyless theft. I have not heard of any thefts but would feel more at ease if I knew the car had protection…..

MY23 here and no issues at all. Sometimes it’s not as responsive when locking the car with the button on the door handle, but no issues with unlocking.
