When was my car manufactured?
Is it possible to find the date when any Volvo was manufactured?
This date may be useful, rather than date first registered, to establish when a car is eligible to be classified as historic |

You might try sending an email to the Volvo museum in Gothenburg. Even if you do get the information I’d be surprised if you manage to convince DVLA to allow the historic tax class a year early. We had a chap from the forum try to do that recently, he didn’t have any success.
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showp...9&postcount=15 I’m guessing your motor car is a 1981 registration, so in the normal run of things it will qualify as an historic vehicle on 1 April 2022, so it is only 5 months to go anyway. Alan

My car is registered in 1982, so best part of a year and a half to wait based on registered date.
The DVLA website currently states 'built before January 1981', so proof of manufacture date should be acceptable. |

I think in practice the DVLA is the only arbiter of what is acceptable, but I wish you good fortune. Do let us know how you get on. Alan

Your car is registered in 1982 but it will be a 1981 model year. The model year commences 1st August until the following July 31st.

Do UK-delivered cars not have a "build plate", usually in the engine-bay, listing the month of manufacture as well as sometimes some other stuff like paint & option codes?

That's probably the other way round, the new model year starts in the summer of the year before, so early 82 reg will be an 82 model, late 82 reg will be an 83 model, there are vin decoders on the internet google it and take your pick. But that doesn't answer Penninepullman's question regarding actual date of manufacture, if it's registered very early in 82 it may have been manufactured in late 81 but on my 98 (99MY) car where there has been a manufacture date on a component such as a plastic moulding it often hasn't been very far before the registration date.

Check to see if your seatbelts have a label on them, this label will give the exact year the car was manufactured.

Pull out the ashtray or other suitable component, look on the rear for a date code. That said, while it might satisfy you that won't convince the DVLA. Youll need either a letter from the manufacturer themselves, or a letter from one of their approve historic car clubs. Nothing else will satisfy them.
