Default Used laptop and Vida or icarsoft

Pre installed dice and vida on a laptop and icarsoft are about the same price on eBay.

Would love to have Vida for the extra options but are there any downsides or risks with getting Vida?

So to get VIDA working correctly, all you need (once you have VIDA installed) is a Mongoose cable?

No DICE unit? I'm a little confused as you can see.

they are alternatives

you have the original DICE unit which is a volvo part

then you have the aftermarket clones which do the same thing, VCX nano / mongoose

all of the above connect from usb to ODB, and VIDA is the software that runs on the laptop which is free to download from a few different places, I use the windows 10 version, others use the windows 7 version on a virtual machine

one benefit of VIDA (which you can get from just downloading in to a desktop PC and not needing to be connected to a car, just type in your VIN) is the diagrams, full catalouge of part numbers, instructions

also, when connected to the car, I'm not sure what the ICarsoft can do but VIDA does recalibrations of various units as well as seeing 100% of the modules and all the data from every sensor, which may not be the case with some readers

im not aware of there being any 'risks' as such, I've messed about with it a number of times and not done any harm yet anyway

vida can be difficult to use as there is no instructions. so you have to learn how to do things with it. there are some you tube vids on how to do the basic stuff. a guide to vida by matthew leavsley is a good one to watch.
