Default Dealer pricing - XC60 rear brake pads

Our XC60 went to the dealer for its third service and first MoT test yesterday. It passed the test with an advisory that rear brake pads were worn.

I was frankly astounded to be quoted £276 for rear pads replacement. I actually thought they had quoted for discs and pads but no, that's just for pads. Cost breaks down as 0.9 hours labour at £140/hr + VAT and c.£100 for the parts.

I am unable to do this work myself so time to look for a decent independent for this type of work methinks.

£168 an hour labour - imagine a cambelt change price from that dealer.

I know someone from London who has cars serviced when on holiday (well up North) away from home !

Definitely look at the good independent Labour rate - you can still fit genuine pads.

If you can find 90 mins in your schedule it aint that hard to do yourself. You can also get a discount on genuine Volvo pads online.

I would do it myself if I could. Sadly I am not physically capable of doing this work.

I am not 100% certain on this as I know supplies change over time to manufacturers but Brembo were supplying front pads to Ford/Volvo in the teens. And are a reliable manufacturer.
Which is odd as TRW supply the calipers for the V70 range but not the pads it seems.

Volvo tell the supplier what properties they want from the pads, so made to suit rather than off the self. They had brake nose on the early models so had a different mix which sorted it.

Just had my starter motor replaced and had it done at an Indie. Asked for the old starter motor back and found it was same as one sold by Euro Car Parts for which indie has added £100 markup! Hey ho.
