V70 steering rack
Well, previous owner filled red atm in the pas and it is leaking.
2004 v70 d5 May my own mistake not to check colour. But what's done is done Can the rack leaks get fixed or is it easier replacing it for a second hand one. A good one of course. Not buying a new one as they far to pricy. i know some Years back I fixed one steering rack from an audi 100 with some fluid you could get back then to fix those leaks. But with all this need to be environmental friendly and green nowadays I can't get that anymore. So looking for options. Thanks |

Still need to put another one in.
No one around here is doing it unless sending it off and waiting 2 weeks. It's a long time for a 2.5 diesel estate hire car to pay out for. Lol So, I may get a good second hand one and and get this one refurbished due time on good offer to have a spare. Just in case. Thanks. (didn't know it can be refurbed) |

Send it to Kiley Clinton in Birmingham, 3-ish day door to door turn around if I remember rightly when I had one done, though that was back in 2019.

Yep, there are 2 or 3 refurbers who have a decent turnround time and it's waaaaay less hassle and expense than getting the wrong one. Ask me how I know...

There are plenty of leak sealers out there, Lucas do one that they claim to work 100%! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqaQjN9xRfo It must be worth a punt to try it first? |

I did try this one back on a bad leaking audi.
And it worked. I found a near empty bottle so now I know the make. I'm not sure if anyone has experience with it. I called the manufacturer regards the v70 and they advising half a bottle and not to go back to green fluid. Stick with red. The reason, green is more waterfluid like ( thinner) then red Red is thicker and in combination with the repair leak fluid it should fix the problem for about 50k miles if not longer. As I only have 1 side light leaking I have a go and see how it works. Can't get any worth. If not, back to the plan of exchange and refurb. I post this leak fluid below. |

Ves.
The green fluid is far to thin and waterlike to work with fluid sealants. One of the reason they designed the use of green back then. Stop people from fixing themselves, at least what the guy at LecWec told me. I refilled with 1 bottle LecWec and topped up with red fluid. Stopt leaking. Done 600 miles since and all is dry. Sucked the red out of the reservoir and refilled with green. 250 miles and no drips. I also put another half bottle lecwec In it. May dosnt work forever but for now it works, so I have time sourcing a cheap second hand rack, and evtl change it to get my old one refurbed. Saved me 2 days hire car, crawling for now under the car and about 300 on a second rack. |
