Broken V70 estate D5 - Needs a saviour urgently.
Hello,
For urgent sale is my fathers Black 2006 (56) V70 d5 estate, black leather, detachable swan neck tow bar, around the 100k miles (from memory), 17 inch alloys etc. Generally good condition- scrape to rear quarter and various trolley dings. Always taken to dealer for mechanicals and servicing. Its been at a Volvo main dealer for about 6 weeks and my Dad (prior to this a dedicated life long Volvo driver) has paid out about £3500 on it. Enough is enough now. Volvo are now saying they don't know what it is and can't fix it. And we are not spending another penny and are very disappointed with car and dealer. We wanted to give the opportunity for it to be saved. The car initially lost power and complained of being 'sooted' up. Its had a new 'particulate filter', 'swirl pot', '2 brand new injectors' and loads of man hours and possibly other bits (i can find out) and still the fault exists- however when we were last at the dealer the engine was also sounding a little 'clattery' -but that might be down to being taken apart so many times and now need resetting or timing ??? - it wasn't doing it when it went in. We now need to remove it from the dealer asap and re-coupe what we can for it. We will seriously consider any fair offer for it. Buyer will need to collect (East Sussex). It might drive but i probably wouldn't chance it. We know that breaking it is the way to probably go but simply don't have facility to store it in the mean time. Thanks. |

Engine sounding Clattery?!
Doesn't sound good or promising to me. I'd raise an issue with the dealer if it wasn't doing it before the car went in. |

Yes you need to sort this with the dealer , If they are incomeptent and you have spent £3500 on it with nothing to show for it this is a very serious case and you need to get a third party involved . You took it to the finest "experts" to fix and they say they cant fix it? ridiculous there must be more to this story than meets the eye !

Shame, this is one where the dealer has not yet got to the source of the problem, they've tried a few of the usual suspects and its not fixed it.
This is either, they literally don't know what the problem is and are stabbing in the dark, or they are taking the pish. Either way, for them to come back and just give up then hand you a giant bill is pretty poor behavior. Its worth getting another Volvo dealer/agent involved and reporting to Volvo UK the problems you've had, this usually gets their attention and the problem fixed. My local is £72/hour (probably +vat) and for that I'd expect them to be very efficient and very capable at finding and fixing problems, but they aren't so I wouldn't go there even if I had no other option. There are two VERY good independents in my city, both of which charge more like 30-40% of main line labour rates and they get the job done on time and on budget, very good. |

Very dd tale. Why you handed over so much before seeing if was okay is a mystery to me.
You pay for what is needed to finally fix the car not all the other things they have tried. As Clan says they are the supposed experts! |

stealer behaviour
Absolutely outrageous behaviour .I would not let it it rest there .you cannot charge for what you have not done .You cannot charge a penny and any court would back you up.I do repairs in a small way myself and if I make a mistake I just have to soldier on and put it right no matter how long it takes.Give it them both barrels !
Start with Trading Standards ,if they don't put their hands up right away. bournricha aka the old volvo man.

chiptivo- explain your comment?
bogart- we payed as each 'believed suspect component' was changed, the car was returned to us each time and all seemed well- for a while. the dealer did have some reservations that complete success had been achieved but also insisted that each changed component had been necessary and contributed. I am furious at how this has played out as well but these issues went on for months and it was dominating my dads time and he was sick to death of it and just needed it to be dealt with. Volvo UK has been written to and we are awaiting a response. |
