Thats a very good question and of which I am not 100% sure. Mine is and 8 valve euro 3 so it is applicable to my car. I think this engine has been used from day one in the S40 and V50 right the way up to todays cars but some have an 8 valve head and some have 16.
Anyone know what engine is in the drive?

So if you have a euro 3 (without DPF) its an 8 valve engine ? how can you tell?

ALL 1.6 D are 16 valve except the new D2 which came out recently which is a 8 valve ..

ive just got the D2, 109 the guy said. he said they have just changed the engine to the 115? one and its not ding as many mpg so a few complaints. he said the 109 engine was better? is this correct?

the 1.6D is 109 bhp the D2 is 115 bhp

That's an odd thing too, I have a euro 3 and it has a DPF.

Yes your right mine is 16 valve as is the drive and D2 is indeed the only 8 valve.

You should have a D4164T 1.6D Euro 3 Without Particle filter ...

what made you think you had one ?

your 8th character would be 5 if euro 4 WITH particle filter for your engine 76 type
