Default XC40 and space for dog

Hi. New to this forum.
I am test driving a new XC40 B3 tomorrow and in need of some advice.
Having to get rid of our Nissan Qashqai+2 due to the ULEZ expansion and am interested in the XC40.
We have a Hungarian Vizsla dog who has so much space in our current Nissan.
Can I ask if any members feel the boot on the XC40has sufficient room to transport a medium/large dog?
I did consider bringing him along to the test drive but I don't think the sales rep would appreciate it! Lol
Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi,
We collected our XC40 in September 2022 after previously owning XC60’s and a V90CC.

We have 2 English Setters (each one about the size of your Vizla) who fit comfortably in the boot space of the XC40 when they travel with us.

Volvo do not sell a complete tailored boot liner for the XC40, so one was purchased from Trojan which is waterproof and covers the sides and backs of the rear seats and also a flap which drops down over the bumper to prevent scuffs when the dogs jump in.

Hope that helps.

P..S. your Dealer should be happy for you to take your dog along to check the size of the boot if they want to sell you the car!

Thank you Suffolkboy.

That is good to know.

Will also definitely look at the boot liner too. My Ginger Ninja's hair gets everywhere!

We’ve been carrying our dogs around for 45 years. We currently have a Labrador bitch, working bred so a bit smaller than your Vizla. I would have no hesitation in carrying a dog of that size in an XC40. We used to have GSDs, two would have been a bit of a squeeze but it would be fine for one.

The only thing I would recommend is that you get the Volvo fitted dog guard. It’s an excellent bit if kit

Hi and welcome.

Prior to purchase, our dealership had a lab size stuffed toy dog for people to try for exactly this reason.

Now had an XC40 for a year and we’ve 2 English Pointers and they fit just fine. We’ve even done a few 5/6 hour trips to Cornwall with them, stopping a couple of times en route to charge and have a short walk. Obviously, there’s no room for any luggage in the boot as well tho’! Not as luxurious for the dogs as the LR Discovery 4 which we had previously but the XC40 really has been ok.

Personally we found the Guardsman XC40 dog guard a better fit than the Volvo one plus it’s a much better price and equivalent quality.

Bit late in replying here but I have carried a Welsh Springer in the back of my XC40 for some time without complaint from the dog. I would say that the fold down dog guard is a great investment and does not intrude when folded in the up position.
