Looked on fleabay, can only find 2, both in the USA and both ridiculous prices! https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_f...alve&_osacat=0 Gives you an idea what to hunt for though!

Chris:~
The prices on these has been daft for quite sometime - bit of a memory jog here, but I seem to recall a mention of the same valve being fitted to other Volvo cars from a similar age, perhaps a member can confirm. Classicswede may be able to help as he offered me one some time back, but I had one supplied via another forum member (I keep a spare now) (Plus an experimental mechanical one - another story-but it works) There must be some good used available when you see the numbers being broken/scrapped. Regards Bob. |

Can't remember the stub size on the B23/230E AAV, no good me looking at my B280E as that is LH2.2 EFi so has an AICV - Air Idle Control Valve - which is moderated by the ECU into different positions. If the stub size is ~16mm then the heater valve would work with only the mods to mount the universal choke cable.

Thanks chaps and sorry for the delay, we had to head off to the beach for a few hours... :-)
Yes, maybe something from a different car would work - I'll search around the net. We'll try it back in place in the morning in case moving it and cleaning has made any difference, you never know?! If we push it more open at the moment, it springs straight back, not sure if that means anything. Failing that, I'll see if I can find one from a breaking car, tho I guess you don't know if it's going to work properly til its on the car - certainly a gamble buying from the US at those prices! |

If you hunt for the same component on a similar sized engine there's a fair chance the actual valve itself will be the same but the bracket may be different. As long as the pipe stubs are the same and the electrical connector is the same, you're in with more than a fighting chance. If you use the Bosch part number from one of those listings i linked to earlier you should find the right one.

Same this morning, the hunt begins...
Meanwhile, we lifted the floor in the back ready to get on with the in-tank fuel pump, hoovered any loose matter out and applied releasant to the relevant parts. I've ordered the sender and other bits too (including the tool to undo the cover lock). Brace yourselves... |

You can easily make the tool to undo the cover lock, out of bit of 1/4" plate. Even Haynes says do that.

Thanks Morwenna, tbh each job that needs doing I have to fight the urge to take it to the garage and get it done, I'm no mechanic - but that's not an option as the lad won't learn anything, and that's lots of money too. So I really don't mind shelling out for the kit to make the job as easy / efficient as possible, when that's a reasonable option.
The kit's here, just trying to make sense of the bag of bits that came with the pump |
