And according to Volvo schedule its two years or 36k miles

I know of two other people who have recently stopped using main dealer ( Not Volvo ) for their servicing now the cars are out of warranty, and the garage they are now using ( a personal friend of mine ) said fuel and air filters had never been changed !

I can confirm this on my sons Corsa which I serviced when his PCP deal came to an end. Cabin and air filter had never been touched and they were filthy

I bought a Mahle fuel filter (and oil filter) thinking it was "identical" to Volvo quality, but should I be getting Mann instead?

My previous Golf, never took it to a VW dealership, ever, until I did, just the once, for a brake fluid flush and bleed, and when I got it back the oil looked unchanged. So bought a brake fluid bleed kit and did it my self, and the oil looked new.

Mahle are ok filters but you can always depend on a Mann one being top quality, Mobil make good filters as well but you don't see them in the UK often,

If you can get your money back on the Mahle ones and it's not an issue returning them I would and re-order the Mann ones,

I will say one thing for Volvo or at least the one mine came from that once home I went over their "service" and the filters had been changed where other car's I've bought in the past I knew it was either the dealer parts desk or ECP for a new air & pollen at the very least, car supermarkets are famous for this as they sell you the car and then add bits to the price depending on your needs, they'll add £200-£500 if you use your own finance, £200 if you want it cleaned and serviced, one you can't buy from unless you join their £175 members club, all in all when you price up cleaning, servicing, finance, warranty you're better off sticking to Selekt dealers.

I was in a thread saying just this a few weeks back, my own experience of the not changing it was while working for a VW garage, it's not VW though it's the mechanic on the day, if he's bonus driven it stands a good chance of not being changed, probably one area a tyre centre might be the best option as you can see them changing it where most dealers the car vanishes into the workshop and comes out covered in dirty chamois stains.

Too late, it's already in the Volvo, but good to know about Mann. The old dirty one I pulled out was Mann, and it seemed pretty much identical to the Mahle, and they're also approx the same price at EuroCarParts, so I wonder if they're in fact the same.

OK so my dad has an S60 D3 (we have the same engine by chance), and he's had this car for a while now and never taken it to Volvo. I do the oil and filter changes every year for him and any other bits and bobs, but never got round to doing the fuel filter; until today.

His was quite nice compared to my filthy one. I can see why you guys said Mann: he had a "Volvo sponsored" Mann filter. Anyway, they look pretty much identical to Mahle, both Made in Germany, so I'm not too bothered. I'll start doing ATF changes for him too. Basically, whatever I do to my V70 I'll then do it for my dad's S60. He only gets state pension, and lives in bankrupted Slough, so every little helps.

Me also. Last time I did timing chain kit on my fathers Corsa. Now everything under the car: antiroll bar lonks, a lot of bushes, wheels aligments etc.
