That's a bit harsh, Vauxhall's aren't that bad?

😂 , Perhaps I should have worded that differently, the cause of my leaving was nothing to do with the switch to Vauxhall, I actually preferred the insignia to the Passat.

Got a 2005 V50 2.0d, had it when it was 4 years old. I do like it hence why I’ve kept it so long. Does everything I want from it. Yes, it’s had issues but I think that applies to a lot of cars.
On the key issue, if it you feel it getting tight when turning it then you know it’s going to be an issue eventually, had mine changed and it’s a lot lighter when you turn it.
So it’s a V50 from me!

I was jesting…. I’ve got two friends with Insignias, one old sharp one new, both are very fond of then and have had good service….

Oh dear, I viewed an 07 V50 last evening and looked nicecuntil I drove it, when ever I braked even really generally the ads pump would kick in clicking away and the warning light would come on, yet let it sit at idle and there was no light on.
Then vendor claimed to not know anything about it but if I bought it would be fixed, I've heard that before so I walked but it has led to me asking this:

Every single car built will develop some sort of issues in its lifetime... it's not a case of if, but when. They're machines, they wear out, stuff fails for a variety of reasons and they need bits replaced and they need maintained. You may find a perfect, flawless example for sale... but that won't last long. I've had my V50 for 6 years, my sister's had two over the past 5yrs so that's about 11 years and probably 150k combined - never had ABS issues, never had a key stuck. Stop worrying about "What if" because if you live you're life by that mantra, you'd never have a relationship, travel, live... because "What if..."

I certainly don't live by what if's but when buying a car I research and look at possible problems ahead. I believe not all manufacturers have the same standards. Alot now days rest on past glories, look at mercedes and BMW once good cars, last twenty years rubbish.
A lot also depends on if a company is taken over, look at Saab and GM, Volvo and ford as seen on this forum. I've experienced this first hand. I had a Mazda 626 ph2, lovely car, comfy, reliable, I did 130k in mine and never spent a penny on repairs, just maintance.
I replaced it with a ph3 626, heavy ford influenced, it was not a patch on the ph2, I didn't keep it long and was the last Mazda I bought.

It's always best to have some knowledge of what your looking at, I certainly don't believe everything on the web, but get good knowledge and feed back from this Forum, which I much appreciate.
