Default XC90 High Revving

I've bought a 2016 XC90 Inscription which is proving to be a really good motor. I've noticed in the last couple of days (cold) that it revs high and seems reluctant to downshift for the first few minutes of a morning journey. Is this just a combo of diesel lump + cold weather? I wouldn't have expected that of a modern power plant, or am I just being naive/mechanically uninformed?

Entirely normal. I too have a 2016 XC90 and it's just Volvo's way of getting the engine and gearbox up to normal operating temperature as quickly as possible.
