Future Technology from Volvo for Road Safety
Volvo is showcasing a new generation of groundbreaking protective safety systems to help improve safety on our roads. Collision Warning with Auto Brake for pedestrians, Collision Avoidance by Auto Steering and Vehicle to Vehicle Communication are three Volvo concepts which are currently in development to provide better protection for people both in and outside the car.

Interesting stuff indeed ... mind you as per 'drive by wire', I'm truly petrified of anything which takes steering out of the hands of the driver ( no pun intended ). The pedestrian idea is interesting, but if it became standard fit I could envisage pedestrians simply running out in front of cars at the last minute on purpose ( oops, sorry ... they do that anyway! ) All interesting stuff though, without a different train of thought nothing ever happens and no great ideas surface. In theory it sounds great. But is the technology just getting too clever and complex. Wait till its starts playing up a few years down the line, will we think its such a good idea.

true, but if the system is designed well enough it can be deactiviated (most likely via VIDA) and the car works without it.
for example, the 4C system, if the fuse is removed, the system switches off and the dampers default to a medium setting between confort and sport. car is still drivable fortunately, volvo think of these things ensuring vehicles arent stranded/undrivable |
