Default D24TIC - Best person to service this?

Having recently bought a 92 940 estate with D24tic engine and spent a lot of time reading up about this engine on the net, I am wary of who I have doing the more specialist work on it. I have read many bad reports about Volvos working on this VW engine. I decided I would rather have VW commercial do a service rather than Volvos but my local VW commerical garage say that they are not insured to work on the VW as it has volvo anicilliary parts attached to it! I have a mechanic I trust who is doing me an oil flush and change and filter and other basic stuff but I am wondering if anyone can recommend who I should get to time the ignition pump? I have managed to find the timing figures off of the net as there is no available manual for the
D24tic engine that I can find, Haynes don't make one for a start, their Volvo 940 manual does not cover the diesels. Is there anyone out there with a D24tic who could recommend anyone in the South East who has worked on one of these cars for them for some time with good results? I was very dissapointed when I took my car to a diesel specialists for a smoke diagnostic test, explained to them in detail why this particular engine must always be very thoroughly warmed up before doing any hard work, only for them to get in it and start revving the life out of it whilst it was still cold, I have seen so many garages do this with 'normal' engines, I don't think my old D24tic could take much of this!

Try the official Green book for the D24, D24T and D24TIC!! It is obtainable from e-Bay and Volvo dealers. Order under part number V97000164, it should cost £30 and, if paid for when ordering, should be ready for collection in one working day. I will try to make copies of the specific service instruction, which sets out the differences for the D24TIC from the others, available on the website.

All the best, Peter.

Don't be put off by the dealers saying that they cannot get the manual. It is the 'official' workshop manual that the dealers use and some of them are not happy when customers want a copy. I use an OK dealer and got a copy priced as Peter said. It was in fact a copy as there were none in stock.

Thanks, if you could upload them somewhere in pdf form that would be brilliant. I've been trying to buy this manual on the net, only place I found it they were 'sold out' and only other site where I found it in stock was a US site that doesn't ship to the UK

Just phone your local dealer. Mine's Marshall's in Peterborough and they had the manual in stock for me 2 days after calling them.
