CAUTION
There is a discrepancy between part numbers on Simon's web site and CVI's,so talk to Simon rather than order off the web site.

Will Do,
Have just rung and he's closed until Monday and whilst the on-line service is still available I'll wait to speak to him on Monday. Dave |

Idea
Sounds like what I'd call a B18B dizzy. The points are a pain on those but another source of problems is where the low tension wire (ie the 12V one) attaches to the distributor by a fiddly little bolt that also connects to the points. The insulation that stops the circuit earthing out on the distributor body can get displaced or can break down. Worth checking. See if the circuit is live when the points are open.
You can remove the whole distributor without disturbing the timing by undoing the two 1/2 inch AF bolts on the base. This makes sorting the points out much easier. Make a note of which way the rotor arm is pointing so you can put it back in easily.

Any joy getting the correct points?
Out of interest, who has/had the error on their web site?

Received a nice delivery yesterday of points, condensor, rotor arm, dizzy cap, leads and plugs + free lollypop courtesy of Brookhouse!.
I don't think the website was wrong, just that they were showing a set of points which fits one of the dizzys used on the Amazon. Once I'd got the number of the dizzy that's on my car then Simon straight away was able to supply the correct parts. Just waiting for some time with decent weather now, as sods law the car failed whilst on the drive rather then in the garage! Dave |

Your engine is going to love that lot (maybe not the lollipop)!
I replaced the points on my 131 (B20) the other day and it made a huge difference to how easily the car started and ran. Looking at the old points I'm surprised it was running at all (I took some close-up photos: see my blog . By the way, I got the replacement points from my local Wilco Motorists Discount. They were made by CI and have the numbers XCS126 and INTR.22050 on the box. Now the passenger's window has just fallen to the bottom of the door and I'm struggling to get the winder off... |

Eeeek, nasty. I think I'd be tempted to also change the condenser. Hopefully you'll get a good one, as even new ones can be dodgy now days. Stick the old one in your toolbox just in case.
Looks as if a bit of lube around the place might also be a good idea. |

Job done and as with John the car now starts and runs much better.
All fine with the low tension wire but as Volvorama says the bolt which fixes the wireto the dizzy as well as to the points and condensor is a bit if a fiddly pain! Biggest surprise for me was when it started first time. My level of mechanical competence (or incompetence) usually result in me forgetting to connect or breaking something!! Happy days Dave |

Well done Dave, the more you fiddle, the more competent you become. Great isn't it.
