A couple of months ago I read all the info on this site concerning replacement of shock absorbers on a '98 V70 estate. Then I decided to replace the self levelling with Monroe gas shocks - mainly for economical reasons. The ride is less rough but still not good on poor surfaces, and the car sits lower at the rear - even to the point of grounding on an unmetalled drive the other day, when loaded. On motorways it's fine (!) and cornering is vastly improved. But I'd like it to be less of a bang and clonk over the unresurfaced roads in Hants and Herts. Can anybody help, please?

If you replace the self leveling shocks with normal type ones then you will have to replace the rear springs with stiffer ones.

Many thanks, Chris. Anything special I should know about the choice of spring? I seem to recall a mention of a specific size in the archive on this subject but can't now find it....

You need the 'standard' spring for the non self leveling model.
