Default XC60 B5 Auxiliary Belt

Hi,
I have a 20 place XC60 B5 which is coming up to 4 years old & just over 40,000 miles.
Quote from main dealer for service is £767 as it includes changing the auxiliary belt.
Quote from independent Volvo specialist is £270 as it excludes changing the auxiliary belt. They are saying that on the variant of car that I have the belt does not need changing.

Anybody have any similar issues or advice on this? I can't find anything online that confirms it one way or the other.
Thanks

Do you mean timing/cam belt rather than auxiliary belt, the auxiliary belt should not be an expensive job and the timing belt should not require changing at that mileage or age.

Exactly. 500 quid for an auxiliary belt is the most ridiculous thing I have heard.

And a timing belt is not needed at this age or mileage.

It's the auxiliary belt that the main dealer is saying needs changing but the independent says is fine.

The price difference also includes the main dealer charging for the 'wear and tear review' and 'powertrain inspection'.

The independent says, "oh - we include that in our quote anyway - why would we charge extra for it?"

Just a thought, is the auxillary belt being referred to maybe the belt that drives / driven off the integrated starter generator motor?

Last time, the dealer quoted me 400 Pounds to clean and re-balance (I am not sure if it's the correct term) the disc brake rotors because they were rusty after not moving the car for 3 weeks. The independent told me it (rust) will go away after a few braking...

That is that particular dealer's con, It is part of any regular service. you don't do a service and NOT check for any wear or tear which a quick visual and push/pull on each wheel , suspension rod , exhaust mountings, oil leaks etc.

Maybe it is something mild hybrid which I haven't had experience of. Will let someone with relevant experience chime in.

I’ll beat that quote. If you bung me £200, I’d happily rag your motor around the block a couple of times and remove the rust by braking a few times.

The aux belt isn't due at that mileage or age. I think the main dealer is trying to rip you off.

The belt will need replacing at some stage though... I think the independent is wrong telling you it doesn't need changing. It does, just not yet.

If your car just needs a service, there's no way I'd pay the dealer hundreds more. I'd go to the independent.
