Default Xc60 rear door seals

The design of the xc60 rear doors allows dirt to gather just below the rubber door seal. I purchased the Volvo “mud guard” part number 32288517 to stop the dirt entering. The part is described as a mud guard but it is in fact an additional wheel arch liner. Does anyone know whether this part is fitted on top of or underneath the existing wheel arch liner.

Thanks for the rapid reply. I fitted the parts in about 5 minutes. I fitted them over the existing wheel arch liners.

Why Volvo hasn’t just gone and fixed this on new models, especially having been an issue for years, is for me a bad prognosis for Volvo

Agreed. It is a flaw in the design of the XC60. At the very least Volvo should install the modified wheel arch liners.

Default Helpful dealer

Hi all, read about the rear spats, as I call them, on here just before changing our last D4 XC60 over to a new B4 at New Year. The amount of dirt gathering behind the rear door was a pain and as many say a design fault. Ordered them with the car and they got fitted without any charge from our very nice dealer. He hadn't heard of them but was impressed. Corress to Volvo from the pair of us making a suggestion to fit, we'll see.

they work a treat especially with the amount of country lane/ farm track work I do. a full set of mud flaps stops the crap from getting too high up on the body.

Just fitted some. Picked them up at local Volvo dealer for £21.60. Dead easy to fit once you’ve cleaned the mud off the liner. The nuts are plastic and can be removed by hand. One torx screw to use too. Photos show them installed

Default mudguards and cheap skate Volvo!!

I've just purchased my 3 yr old XC60 and one of the faults I knew it had was the rear door seal hanging down. Clearly someone had tried to stick this up before with chewing gum or whatever they had to hand. I thought the mudguards discussed on this site were to hold the door seals in place.

A few days older and a little bit wiser I now know these are simply what they say on the tin, mudguards. After popping the door seals off I was appalled at the amount of mud and crud that had accumulated around what really is a main body seam.

The mudguards can be fitted in a few minutes. A couple of hand tight plastic flange nuts under the wing and a single torq screw. It all clips over the top so no need to writhe the inner wheel arch protective guard off. Likewise don't be taking the wheels off.

Everything is clean now. Crappy door seals put back in place and mudguards fitted. This is stupid shortfall on a nice motor and will cause issues in the future. If you haven't fitted them suggest clean the muck out and fit them.
