Hi,
Does anyone know how to find a manufacturing date for my car. It was registered in early 1979 but all the date components are date stamped '78.
It had a first inspection in jan '79(three months before it was registered!) so I'm confident it would of been made in '78. Obviously I would like it to qualify for free tax next year, but need some kind of documentation Does anyone know where I can get it from?
Thanks.

Hi, you can find the manufacturing date from your car Vin number - found on the silver plate on strut tower under the bonnet and starts with VC

The 6th digit indicates the year your car was manufactured.

See here for more info :

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Frustratingly, Volvo used to class their cars as a 'model year' well before the actual year commenced. Hence mine is a 1979 model year, but I'm sure it's production date is the previous year..
Humph!

Hi,

Did a little research and found a contact at volvo heritage you can email for the exact build date. I sent a private message with his details.

If you could get a certificate or confirmation of build date from him I believe that will count as proof of manufacture for tax exemption.

The model year would be 1978. The model year commences August each year.
