Cool Long overdue return to Volvo!

Hi All,
Not posted on here for a good while, but have been an occasional lurker.
I sold my last Volvo about 18 months ago and have really missed it.

I recently purchased a 1987 740 GL Saloon as a project. The car had not been on the road for at least 13 years, but has clearly been well loved and looked after. Today, after it’s first MOT in a long while she is once again fit for the road!

The car has done just a shade under 39,000 miles, and drives as sweet as a nut.
She just needed a few minor jobs to pass the MOT, however there are a few little jobs that I want to get done to get her as close to 100% as I can.

It’s nice to behind the wheel of a Volvo again!

Welcome back, good to see another saloon in the fold.

What have you got left to do on it?

There were a couple of advisories on the MOT, and there are some small dings and a scrape I want to get sorted. The main job I need to do is the timing belt, which I shall be doing this weekend, along with the tensioner and auxiliary belts. It may also need the harmonic balancer as there is a squeal that comes and goes, however, it could equally be the tensioner.

The carb is prettier gunked up, so I will get a refurb kit for it and borrow a mates ultrasonic cleaner.

Lots of other little jobs to tinker away at, only had it just over a week, so I’m really pleased it passed the MOT. I replaced all the tyres, as they were all cracking on te sidewalls(including the spare). Replaced front and rear pads and freed off the brakes.
