Towing limits v90 cc d5 2020 polestar
Hi all
Looking for some pro advice . I’ve towed vans for several years but both being lighter weight vans never had issue with max tow limits . I’m looking at getting a twin axle but looking for max safe towing as I’m getting confused with the towing limit 2400 kg and the 85% of kerbweight figure as it gives me diff options just want to know what my max MTPLM is for this car before I go proper shopping ,I’ve included pic of data for car . I was liking Hobby but that’s MTPLM 1900 . Any help appreciated. |

Max towing limit is just that so 2500kg.
85%rule is a guide from the two main caravan clubs as a recommendation for inexperienced towers but goes on to say that experienced towers can tow up to 100% of the kerb weight of the car so approx 1881kg but you have to look at the actual kerb weight of the car not the minimum as per the spec sheet. The best way is to get the car weighed. Any extras added to the car are likely to increase the kerb weight for example a towbar may well add 30kg. As a guide I tow a Swift Elegance 845 Grande with a max mass updated to 2000kg which is exactly the the towing limit of My XC60 absolutely no problems. A twin axle will be more stable than a single and your only enemy is too much speed.

Hi
I have a V90 Cc D4 which also has a max towing capacity of 2400kg. I recently upgraded my van from a Bailey Palermo to a Coachman Laser Xcel 845 which has an mtplm of 1900kg which is not far short of the cars kerb weight. I did 375 miles with it last week on a variety of roads and the car coped very well. I set my nose weight at 85kg as I always do. The outfit performed well and I didn't feel the caravan stressed or bullied the car. I agree with Whyman about speed though, just don't try to be too gallous. Kr CL

There are only a couple of twin axle Hobby caravans that can legally be towed in the UK. Most of them are over the 7m legal length. Do your research before falling into that rabbit hole as the police are cracking down on them now.
