Windscreen: Water ingress on x70/80 P3 models 2007 on
Hi,
This topic is to log users who have issues with the above fault where the screen and bond are not correctly adhered to the vehicle bodywork Please see the reference topic on water ingress Here. So if you have had or are having these issues please post model, year, when acquired, servicing, and whether VCUK has been approached for recompense and what that outcome was. Des. . .

Posting here as finally heard back from VCUK, no financial assistance due to vehicle being over 6 years old.
XC70 D5 SE Geartronic First Reg: 31/01/2008. Acquired by me: 10/08/2015. 1 previous owner. Current mileage 156,308. Full Volvo service history until 144k service which I did myself. Replacement windscreen fitted by Volvo dealer in Hull at 121,639 miles on the 29/05/2014 due to a crack in the screen and a bonding issue on the top. Screen bonding issue raised to me at the MoT (08/01/2016 150,106 miles) and is so loose it can be lifted from the car. VCUK not contacted by dealer as they thought my chances of goodwill were slim (lazy dealer and I didn't buy the car from them and have test driven two cars there and bought neither so maybe they don't like me) VCUK contacted my myself and refused to offer goodwill due to age, mileage and the replacement screen stating possible poor workmanship even though it was done in the Volvo dealer network. Windscreen does not appear to let water into the cabin at this time, dealer would charge £120 to reseal the screen. Current windscreen is cracked so I'm having it replaced at my expense shortly and retrofitting the later weather strip to prevent further leakage.

The screen bonding failed on both my 2012MY S80 and my son's 58-plate C30!
The S80 was first registered July 2011, bought by me July 2012 with 5K on the clock as an ex-Volvo UK vehicle. Still on original screen to best of my knowledge, with full Volvo history when it failed ~3 months ago with ~108K on the clock. I called Volvo UK, explaining that I wasn't happy as the screen is an integral part of the safety cell and they asked me to take it to my local dealer and they would agree 'some' goodwill. Took it to MRG who initially said 'nothing we can do', however, when I explained that I'd already spoken with VCUK then went away and agreed a 100% goodwill gesture from Volvo for labour and consumables. The caveat, however, was that the dealer stated I had to take the liability for the glass should their technician break it when carrying out the procedure, at a cost of over £300. After a number of discussions, I informed MRG (the only dealer that I had ever used for the S80) that I would no longer be using their services, nor would my son or wife (who drives a brand new XC60), and instead went to an independent Volvo specialist, Kings Motor Services of Westbury. They arranged for a local independent windscreen company to extract and re-fit my windscreen for £50 - without breaking it! I then had the same carried out to my son's C30, albeit this screen broke so I had a new screen fitted. To summarise, VCUK seemed amenable to assisting with this issue, but the previously exceptional MRG, no longer independent and instead now part of Chippenham Motor Company, were quite happy to lose a loyal customer with 3 cars rather than stand behind the ability of their technicians to do their job properly! |

I have a 2008 (58 plate) V70 which I bought in April. I live in North Wales (bit of a hilly area!) and I had parked facing down the hill.
It had been raining heavily and when I returned to my car the water had been pouring in through the windscreen on the upper left side onto my dashboard. I ended up having a new windscreen fitted on my insurance under windscreen cover. Autoglass showed me where the screen had not been bonded properly and it could clearly be seen there was no bonding agent applied to the windscreen mounting. New screen, new sensor plate, happy bunny! Now just to resolve the reservoir that pours into the boot from the gulley with grommets! |

I actually discovered that I had this leak while on holiday in the UK this summer. Who would have thought that; it never rains i the UK, does it?
My car is an XC70 2012, with 200000 km on the odometer. When I returned to Sweden, Volvo replaced it with a new windscreen for free. |

2012 XC70 with 62k.
Having a cracked windscreen replaced by Autoglass today and when I when I washed around the screen in preparation water was pouring in. Along the top the only part still bonded was a small piece behind the mirror. I haven't noticed a leak before so it my be related to the crack, but what was a concern is that Autoglass said the crack wasn't a safety issue so the the car was safe to drive until it got fixed. That seems unlikely since it is barely fixed in at all! |
