XC60 trailer module
Hi. I have a 2015 model (64 plate) D4 XC60 SE LUX NAV. The first question is:
1. How do I know if a trailer module is fitted, and IF it has one, where is it? I have searched this site and found advice on the location of the module and wiring. I have found no obvious signs of either. Having said that, I have only removed the boot tray and near side rear boot panel. 2. Assuming I require a module and associated wiring, what parts do I require please? 3. From what I can gather, it's best to go genuine Volvo on tow bar electrics, is this correct? 4. I have VIDA/Dice but am not 100% proficient using it. That said, can the software required be installed by myself, or do I need to go to the main dealer? Life was so much simpler with the V70 |

If you don't already have a towbar (or more correctly the trailer socket) you are unlikely to already have the trailer module, although the wiring connections for it are already built into the car.
Fitting instructions from Volvo so you can look to see if it is installed: https://accessories.volvocars.com/In...XC60(-17)/2014 The wiring you need is basically the loom from the trailer module to (and includes) the 13-pin socket. https://www.volvopartshop.com/13-pin...17-16510-p.asp Is what you need ( best to check with VIN numbers, though. Even if you have VIDA you will need to get the software via a dealer or independent specialist that has the 'online' VIDA system. You must have this if you are using the genuine system, which, as you say, is highly recommended, because nothing, not even sidelights, will work without the software addition. Best to shop around for the software install- prices seen on here and the xc70 sections are ranging between £30 to £100+ for exactly the same service. I don't think it is the fact that it isn't a V70, it is probably how all later cars are. Mine is an xc70 MY16 and had to go through all this hassle as well. |

I have just ordered a new XC60 and intend to have a Witter detachable flange tow bar fitted when I get the car. Will I need to get a TCM or is that for earlier cars?

The far superior volvo towbar comes complete with the 13 pin socket and plug for the Trailer Module .

It is a few years ago now but to update the story.
I had a witter fitted after being assured it would interface to the car correctly, it didn't so I had it removed and bought the Volvo retractable which has been great.
