Advice on LPG-Compatible Volvo Models with Hardened Valves
Good evening everyone,
I am looking to buy a petrol Volvo (SUV or estate) from 2004 and above that can be converted to run on LPG (liquified petroleum gas). Taking the fact that valves and valve seats wear out faster while running on LPG, which model engine will you advise to look out for (engines with hardened valve seats and valves made from materials resistant to wear and heat, such as stainless steel or special alloys.)? ----------------------------------- From forums: -The engines that have hardened valves and seats are: 1.8F, 2.0F, 2.4 SE and 2.5FT. -2.4 SE (170bhp) on V70 - The engine has quality valve seats made from a very hard alloy that aren´t damaged by LPG. You don´t even need flashlube. -The 2319cc engine which is LPG friendly was used up until 1st July 2004 on the Phase 2 V70. -Valves will only burn if the fuel mixture is very lean (on petrol or LPG) Some engines suffer with micro welding of the valve to the seat that results in the faces wearing away and the valve traveling further and further up until the valve clearance is fully closed up and beyond that the valve will not even close. There are number of products to stop/reduce this effect with the most common being Flashlube ----------------------------------- From ChatGPT: Volvo B5204T5 (turbocharged four-cylinder): Used in models like the Volvo S60 and V70 Volvo B6304T2 (turbocharged six-cylinder): Found in vehicles like the Volvo XC60 and S80 ----------------------------------- Can you confirm whether the above is correct? . . They do take it very well and were offered with LPG from the factory
Adding a valve saver system would not hurt |

These engines were factory-fit for LPG/CNG. I've not had valve issues on galactic mile cars. Mind all were factory-fit B5244SG gas versions.
