  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Default Clunk on start up

Hi guys I've noticed the last two days after finishing work when I start the car I get like a clunk or a ping sounds like a spring pinging hard to explain sounds like it could be coming from my belt area not 100% sure it done this once couple of months ago car had been lien all weekend though and was bitterly cold I've not noticed it in the morning but only when I finish work cars been lien from day 6 am to 4 pm only does it once each time try restarting the car Dsnt do it the car is sitting still and not moving either cheers

Only reason I asked is my T5 occasionally does that clunk on start and I've no idea what causes it. It has done it for years but only maybe 1 in 30 starts.

Cheers Ianimd mines prob even less than that but just unusual it's done it two days in a row

Sounds like the starter solenoid staying engaged on release of the key and the clonk being the solenoid disengaging (being thrown out)?

Hi Brian not really sure its like a clunk car starts fine if I turn it off then turn it on it will not clunk again done it a couple of months ago but the car had been lien all weekend it was bitterly cold but done it yesterday and the day before again never done it today right enough
